ALOR SETAR, KEDAH, MALAYSIA - Local authorities swooped down on an illegal gambling center in Lorong Kampung Pisang last week and several individuals were detained on suspicions of working for the gambling center.
Police raided the two-storey wooden house after a two-week surveillance and detained three women aged between 30 and 48 who were believed to be employed by the syndicate operating of the gambling den. Police said that the syndicate had earned about RM9.6 million (US$ 3.1 million) since it started operations last year.
Also seized during the raid were fax machines, printers, foldable tables, three laptops and two modems that were being used to facilitate the gambling operations. 147 facsimile sheets suspected to be betting papers were also among those confiscated.
