UNITED KINGDOM -- International gambling specialist, Global Betting and Gaming Consultants (GBGC), recently released a report stating that the online gambling industry continues to be on a uptick, growing some 12% last year.
This is a marked improvement from 2009 and the GBGC report added that the online gambling industry is now worth US$ 29.3 billion. The sportsbetting market accounted for 41% of the total worth with online casino and online poker combined for 46%. The rest of the market contributed 13% with online bingo contributing US$ 1.3 billion to the total in 2010.
GBGC expects that the industry will generate over US$ 40 billion in the next three years, the estimate figure to be helped by emerging regulated markets especially in Europe and Asia. The company also sees the trend of online gambling becoming mainstream, a trend that has been started by online poker years back.
