MACAU - The Asian gambling hub of Macau reported recently that it posted a 60.1% year-on-year rise on gross revenues from January to September this year or gross revenues of US$16.654 billion.
According to Macau's Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, the revenue for the said period surpassed last year's total gross revenues which was pegged at US$15.047 billion. Last month alone, Macau's casino gaming revenues were at US$1.912 billion, 39.8% higher over the same month in 2009. Gross revenues from casino gaming accounted for 99.28% of all gaming revenues while the remaining percentile was contributed by horse and greyhound racing, Chinese and instant lotteries, and sports lotteries. All other gaming forms had a total gross revenue of US$16.773 billion.
Among the casino games from January to September, baccarat and VIP baccarat brought in 90% of gross revenues or about US$15 billion while slot machines were a distant second, contributing total gross revenues of US$777 million.
As of September 30, a total 33 casinos are in operations in Macau including Stanley Ho's Sociedade de Jogos de Macau with 20 casinos, 5 being operated by Galaxy Casino, Venetian Macau with 3, Melco Crown Jogos with 3, and Wynn Resorts and MGM Grand Paradise with 1 casino apiece.
