Illegal Online Casino Using Models as Live Dealers
TAIPEI, TAIWAN - Taiwanese publication, Apple Daily Taiwan, recently reported that police have uncovered an illegal gambling operation in the city that used models as live dealers for an online casino website.
In a raid conducted on a rented TV studio, police arrested sixteen people including models who were used as croupiers by the illegal casino's financiers. Also arrested were the models' agents as well as operations crew of the live-streaming casino. Two of the models arrested were also underage. According to police, the casino had been operating for three months before the raid.
The live streaming online casino was masquerading as broadcasting from mainland China, setting up TV monitors that aired China-based programs. The website was said to have paid about US$ 36,430 to a Taiwanese modelling agency for 40 models to work as live dealers. Operating 24-hours a day, the models worked on three shifts, with eight women per shift for each of the eight tables. Five of the gaming tables were for baccarat.
The models were instructed to be sexy and seductive including putting on heavy make-up and wearing revealing outfits. They were also instructed to hold dice containers close to their chests when rolling the dice. All these were done to entice customers who were mostly male.
In the three months that it had operated illegally, the live casino had drawn more than 1,000 customers. Further investigation revealed that the website hosted its server in the Philippines.
Local police authorities are continuing their investigation to flush out the remaining members of the illegal casino.
