PhilWeb Receives Mobile Gaming License from East Timor

MANILA, PHILIPPINES -- Philippine gaming firm, PhilWeb Corp, recently announced that it has received a mobile gaming license from East Timor paving the way for the launch of SMS-based instant win games in the said country.

PhilWeb will be launching a suite of mobile games in East Timor under the Gold Mobile brand.

According to PhilWeb President Dennis Valdes:

"Our track record in mobile gaming was critical to the government of East Timor in granting us this license."

Valdes was referring to the company's Philippine SMS-based instant win promotion, "Premyo sa Resibo" (Prize from a Receipt) which was launched in the Philippines in 2005 and has enjoyed success over the past six years, receiving 175 million SMS entries. The program, launched in cooperation with the Philippines' Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to prevent businesses from tax evasion by giving official receipts to customers,  has already given out Php 165 million (US$ 3.8 million) worth of prizes.

Valdes said that the issuance of the mobile gaming license was a milestone for PhilWeb. The company will be working closely with East Timor's leading telecommunications company for the launch of its Gold Mobile games with subscribers.
